Goodbye, San Francisco! Reasons why we are leaving

I think it’s time to say that our chapter of living in San Francisco is coming to its end. For now, we’ve realized that we need to move.

There are several reasons why we are leaving. The main reason right now is that everything is kind of locked down. We initially moved to San Francisco in 2016, after raising money from Silicon Valley investors, getting our visas. When we moved there, we stayed at a friend’s apartment and we were amazed by the quality of life there because his building had common areas where you could network with neighbors who were entrepreneurs. We were so inspired so that we moved in San Francisco in one of those apartment buildings. Now, with everything being on lockdown, it’s impossible to meet our neighbors, use all the amenities that the building provides but we’re still paying the whole rent.

The second reason why we are moving is having a baby. I did my research on schools. I know it’s too early, she’s only six months old but what I found out was that if we want to get into a nice school in San Francisco, we either need to move to another neighborhood which is really hard because a modern place that is similar to where we are right now would cost $15,000 per month. If there is a good deal and you find a two-bedroom for $7,000 or $8,000 per month, then you have to compete with ten other families even right now. So if we don’t find an apartment we’re left with an option of a private school which costs $30,000.

The plan right now is to travel because vacation rental homes have never been cheaper. It’s a great opportunity to discover new places and maybe realize that we want to try to live somewhere else.
